When I was a retail manager, one of the local service dog organizations used my store and a few other retailers to train the dogs. It helped them adjust to big spaces and lots of people. It was really neat to see the progress of the dogs as they went through the training. It also helped me learn what not to do when interacting with a service dog so that I didn't distract it from its job.
I love seeing the progress of the dogs. I have seen a few and knew the rules and things to do only because of friends who have the dogs. All that I have know have dual names, one for on duty and one for off duty which let the dog know how it could act.
They are amazing pups indeed. I read a blog about a man and his service dog and their adventures. Erin is Love I think you'd enjoy it.

DeleteI have a great amount of respect for those who train service dogs, a lot of time, effort and patience goes into it!
