After earning a degree in English at California State University at Northridge, she spent thirteen years writing for various magazines and newspapers, working as a book editor, and teaching creative writing. She gave up all that six years ago to follow her lifelong dream of writing novels. Her first book, The Rock of Ivanore, will be released in May 2012.Besides writing, Laurisa is also a voracious reader. She also loves musical theater, chocolate, sushi, ancient history, bearded dragons, and rain storms.  She lives in Southern California with her husband, 5 children, 4 birds, 2 lizards, 2 turtles, 1 fish, 1 dog, and a partridge in a pear tree.

The Rock of Ivanore
The annual Great Quest is about to be announced in Quendel, a task that will determine the future of Marcus and the other boys from the village who are coming of age. The wizard Zyll commands them to find the Rock of Ivanore, but he doesn't tell them what the Rock is exactly or where it can be found. Marcus must reach deep within himself to develop new powers of magic and find the strength to survive the wild lands and fierce enemies he encounters as he searches for the illusive Rock. If he succeeds, he will live a life of honor; if he fails, he will live a life of menial labor in shame. With more twists and turns than a labyrinth, and a story in which nothing is as it seems, this tale of deception and discovery keeps readers in suspense until the end.
Middle readers will find that The Rock of Ivanore fits nicely among the traditional fantasies they so enjoy. They will also appreciate its fresh and inventive take on the genre.

Kings & Queens Book Blast! 5/14

Seventeen-year-old Majesty Alistair wants police to look further into her father’s fatal car wreck, hopes the baseball team she manages can reclaim the state crown, aches for Derek…or, no…maybe Alec…maybe. And she mostly wishes to retract the hateful words she said to her dad right before slamming the door in his face, only to never see him again.

All her desires get sidelined, though, when she overhears two fellow students planning a church massacre. She doubts cops will follow up on her tip since they’re sick of her coming around with notions of possible crimes-in-the-works. And it’s not like she cries wolf. Not really. They’d be freaked too, but they’re not the ones suffering from bloody dreams that hint at disaster like some crazy, street guy forecasting the Apocalypse.

So, she does what any habitual winner with zero cred would do…try to I.D. the nutjobs before they act. But, when their agenda turns out to be far bigger than she ever assumed, and even friends start looking suspect, the truth and her actions threaten to haunt her forever, especially since she’s left with blood on her hands, the blood of someone she loves.

Praise for Kings & Queens:

"I think the best way for me to describe the book is quirky. "Beautifully unique" would be another term I'd use. I just.. I love this book. Each character, especially Majesty, was like a 20-Layer Cake. The book was both character-driven and plot-driven, which promises to be an exciting ride for every type of YA reader." ~Missy from Missy's Reads & Reviews

"WOW. The description for this book on GoodReads.com does not do this book justice. This was an AWESOME, twisted, capturing tale. Like Gossip Girl with deadly consequences." ~Teresa Rice from The Duchess Mommy Reads

"Best YA Book I've read all year...out of 79 books." ~Jennifer Golub from Waiting on Sunday to Drown

"I don't think I've ever read a book like this one. A whirlpool of humor, bravery, slowly spreading horror, friendship, wrenching sadness, volatile emotion, barely contained passions: the literary equivalent of crystal meth. I hit a certain point, where the action and confusion and mystery were at their peak, that I narrowed my eyes and said, "All right, that's it! I refuse to put this book down until I know who is who, what this is really all about, how this fevered chase is going to end!" And I didn't put it down until I read the last word. Which was sometime in the very early morning. I passed out and re-awoke with a Kings&Queens hangover." ~ Lily Odell

"Courtney Vail thrills and shocks in her debut YA suspense, Kings & Queens. I really enjoyed reading this mystery because it reminded me of one of my favorite detective TV shows, Veronica Mars. The authentic high school drama and conspiracies were warped and utterly original." ~Candace @ Lovey Dovey Books

SUPERFOODS For Women Only Review

The Author Hilary Greenleaf was kind enough to provide me with one of her books for women!  This book is titled "SUPERFOODS For Women Only: 20 Vital Foods for Soft Hair, Clear Skin, and Feeling Younger".  This is a great book for women to help in their health.

This book is broken down into categories of food type to keep everything neat and organized.  I loved how you could easily look through the book and ind exactly what you are looking for.  It has food categories such as grains, fruits & veggies, meat & fish, dairy, nut & legume, spice & herbs, and finally surprising superfoods.

Aside from it being organized I also liked the fact that she explains things clearly and does not bog the book down with terminology.  She makes it all easy to understand and she explains why the food is good for you, how much to eat, and what study was done to figure out all of this.

Overall, I am very glad that I was given the opportunity to read this book because there were so many different SUPERFOODS that I did not know were especially good for me.

Growing Culinary Herbs In Containers Review!

I am so excited to tell you about the great ebook that I was given the opportunity to review!  If you are a gardener or if you are someone who enjoys fresh herbs when they cook this is a great book for you.  I know that now that I have read it I will be attempting to find a place that is a "cat free" zone in my home to start growing some of my own!  I have always preferred fresh herbs when I am cooking if I can afford to buy them and keep them fresh in my home.  Unfortunately I don't cook as much as I should.  I am hoping to start again.

A little about "Gardening with Little Miss Greenfingers: Growing Culinary Herbs in Containers" it is written by Anja Koch who grew up and finished school in Germany after which she began an apprenticeship.  After finishing all of that up she went back to school for landscape design then in '97 she moved to Ireland where she started her own winning garden center and nursery!  This woman has done a lot and she knows what she is talking about!

This book is designed for people who haven't grown herbs before.  What I love about it is that she breaks everything down making sure you know which plants need certain types of soil, fertilization, water, and sunlight so you know where and in what to plant each different herb in.

This book focuses on 17 main herbs that are most commonly used in the home and tells you everything that you need to know about them!  The break down in the Table of Contents and the actual book is simple and flows really well.

She discusses where to grow your herbs, the stuff you need for container herb gardening, growing herbs from seeds, culinary herbs suitable for growing: both perennials and annuals, how to look after your herbs, dealing with pests and disease, as well as harvesting and preserving herbs.

After reading this book I made notes on which herbs I use the most and which ones I would like to grow so that I can remember when I go to plant them.  everything that she mentions is needed can easily be found at local nursery's and gardening shops as well as through many vendors online.  She does give examples of other resources that can be useful including places to find the things that are needed to start your Herb Garden.

Out of the 17 different herbs I picked out 9 that I want to begin growing.  Two of the herbs are annuals: Basil and Cilantro.  The other 7 are perennials that will need to be replanted: Bay Leaf Tree, Chives, Lemon Balm, Oregano, Mint, Rosemary, and Thyme.

Overall I would have to say that this book gets 5 STARS from me. The reasoning for this is because it is easy to read while explaining everything.  It is also aesthetically pleasing while the whole layout is organized and flows smoothly from topic to topic.

For more information on this book about growing culinary herbs you can check out her website.  You can also purchase her book on Amazon for the Kindle.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Beautiful Ambition Giveaway!

Cover of Beautiful Ambition

Beautiful Ambition: My Secrets to Love, Happiness and Success by Tara Brooke is a motivational book written to inspire women to go for their goals. In her book Tara writes about her personal journey to living her dream. She talks about being positive and having the right mindset is essential to securing your ticket for success. Tara mentions the need to set SMART goals and a detailed plan on how you will go about to achieve it. You have to write down clear and realistic goals and follow through step by step in order to achieve what you want. Many women struggle to find the balance between being generous and pursuing their personal or professional goals Most of them do not know what they themselves want for themselves or are too easily influenced by others who may not have their best interest at heart. Tara gives real life examples of Angeline Jolie and Oprah Winfrey among other influential women who are really remarkable. Their determination and relentless pursuing of their goals have shown that nothing is impossible.

My Thoughts
I love how there is a summary of each chapter at the end with the main points as it makes it easier to understand the gist of the message being proclaimed in the chapter if you are pressed for time. Tara gives very practical step by step tips on the key areas of how to set your goals, understanding yourself, make prudent decisions to create your future, positive attitude, money management and about sisterhood. I definitely recommend this book to all ladies out there who are seeking to change their life and reach for their goals. Dominique's Desk would like to thank my bloggy friends for helping me promote this review and giveaway.

You can buy your own kindle version or paperback on Amazon.com

Review by Mom Does Reviews:

I was so excited and thankful to have the pleasure of reviewing Book 1 in the Mr. Right Series! Waiting for Mr. Right, by Barbara Precourt with Lisa Raftery, brought me back to my adolescent years, a very bumpy journey that led my far away from God. If I had read Waiting for Mr. Right in those troublesome teenage years, my life would have been totally different. Julia, the main character, leaves her Christian home for college and tries to fit in with a sorority. Julie had never dated, gone to dances or parties. Being raised in a Christian home, Julie did not test her faith, never disobeyed , and never fell in love. When Julie goes away to college, we follow her journey to find Mr. Right, but he turns out to be Mr. Wrong. We see Julia discover that her relationship with God needs to be her first love. That one little lie leads to so much trouble. Her parents help her, forgive her and support her as she realizes what really could have happened just from wanting to have a little fun. I highly recommend Waiting for Mr. Right to any and all girls, teens or women who want to make sure their Mr. Right doesn't turn out to be Mr. Wrong.

What I loved about Waiting for Mr. Right:

  • The story flows easily, is full of conflict and keeps you turning the pages.
  • It has the most important message highlighted throughout the book: our need for a personal relationship with God. The epilogue lays out the plan of salvation.
  • It deals with important issues that young girls need to be aware of: date rape, unplanned pregnancies, abusive boyfriends and how to be a true friend.
  • I enjoyed the "Finding You" section at the end of the book. It describes each character's attitudes and characteristics so you can decide who you identify with.
  • All the books in the series come with a complete discussion guide (found on their website as a PDF file) These are perfect tools for youth groups, outreach programs or family devotions for teenage girls.
  • Mr Right series blog is a great resource for Christian women of all ages. It even features "what the girls are saying" about their experience with Mr. Right (or Mr. Wrong.) Be sure to visit the blog and sign up for their daily emails.

I can't say enough about Waiting for Mr. Right! It sure opened my eyes and made me look at my heart and my true love! Be sure to Like Mr Right Series on Facebook and follow them on Twitter!

The Giveaway:

Two lucky winners will receive their own paperback version of Waiting for Mr. Right, thanks to the generous donation of the authors! Giveaway open to US only. Giveaway ends 3/27 12:01am. Blaze of Glory Book Review

Now something that I have not gotten into on here as of yet, but I am a HUGE book worm!  I LOVE books so much so when I was given the opportunity to review this book I was jumping for joy.  This book is a great book for Teens and Young Adults.  I believe that people in the older crowd would also love this book for the great romance/family drama that is brought up in it so well.

I do not want to give away the book, but I will give you an idea what this book is about.  It is about Tea a 16 year old girl and Jaden who is 22.  It is about these two trying to fight the attraction that they feel toward one another because their parents would never approve of them having a relationship.

All of the characters in this book touched my heart.  The personalities were strong and if the book was missing one character it would change the story so much.  I admit that I loved that this is sold on Amazon and that I was able to take it on the go with me and not have to have a book to carry around with me.  Any moment that I got I was reading this book even if I only got to read one page on the Kindle app on my cellphone.

I believe that this is a book that I would approve for anyone from the age of 12 and up.  I think that it covers a great story and an idea that is in many books.  However, I believe that this is the best book that I have red with two characters fighting their attraction for one another.  It is something that I believe many teens will be able to relate to in some fashion or another.

What is also great about this book is the fact that even with the main story line between Tea and Jaden you get so much more out of it!  If you a a romance reader, or if you have a love for horses I think this book is for you!  I love both of these things and I know this is a book that I will read again!

Blaze of Glory is written by M. Garzen and you will want to make sure that you read this book before March 31st, 2012 because she has a sequel in the works that you will not want to miss!

This book can be purchased on Amazon or you can go to her website and find all of the available retailers.  This book is a great price of only $14.95!!!

Till the end of the month the Kindle Edition on Amazon is on sale for $2.99.  So get it while you can!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Crindlestar Review and Giveaway!

I was given a Crindlestar card and story to review.  This is such a cute product that is something you can use to spend some time with your children.  Crindlestar is a beloved story about a unicorn and a child’s belief in the unicorn.  It is a story that you will enjoy as much as your child will.

I do not have a child however I did enjoy listening to the story.  It is a cute story and it is something that you can listen to over and over with your children.  I believe this would make a great bedtime story to listen to.  The narrator’s voice is very soothing and helps keep you calm while intrigued to hear more of the story.

Once you have downloaded your story off of the internet you can then take the card and plant it.  Each card is made with wildflower seeds embed in it so you can plant it and grow some beautiful flowers!  Since, it is still cold and snowy here in Michigan I was unable to plant my card just yet, but I am looking forward to planting it.  It works out perfectly for me since last summer I bought this place and we pulled out all of the plants since most were dead.  I can use these to help grow my new plants in my garden beds.

I have been given two extra Crindlestar cards to giveaway to two of my fans.  I am very excited to tell you this because these cards are just too cute to pass up.  You can buy your own Crindlestar card HERE.  If you would like more information or to follow Crindlestar on Facebook, Twitter, and Crindlestar's Blog.

All you have to do for the giveaway is enter on the Rafflecopter below.  If you don't know how to use Rafflecopter check out this post about how to enter!

Party Planning Checklists Review

I was given the opportunity to review the "Party Planning Checklists" that Theme Party Queen has written.  This Party Planning Guide was really helpful to me.  I do not throw a lot of parties, but when I do I always stress wanting everything perfect.  I have slight OCD tendencies.

This book covers the main things you need to stay organized.  It first hits on the recipes that you will be using for the party.  Organizing them by category.

The next thing that it covers is when you will be preparing each dish.  I hadn't ever thought about planning this out.  Planning when you make the dishes is smart so that everything is not being made the night before (which is something that I often do).

After this the next checklist it covers is for a grocery list.  Laying out all of the ingredients that will need to be purchased for each recipe.

Finally, the book covers the table layout as well as other necessary items throughout the house.  This is probably my favorite part of the book because I can make everything crazy neat and organized.

You can check out her stuff on her website, Facebook, Twitter, and on Pintrest.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
